Understanding Freedom of Information

Freedom of Information (FOI) supports openness and accountability across public bodies. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2014, you have the right to:

  • Access records held by Fáilte Ireland, including records relating to you
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Obtain reasons for decisions that affect you

The Act sets out your rights of access to records held by public bodies.

How to make an FOI request

To make a valid request, you must:

  • Submit your request in writing - online, email or by post
  • State that it is made under the FOI Act
  • Clearly describe the records you are seeking

We will acknowledge your request and issue a decision within four weeks, or contact you if more time is needed. There is no fee to submit a request, although charges may apply in limited cases and will be confirmed in advance.

Reviews and appeals

If you are not satisfied with a decision, you have the right to request an internal review or appeal to the Office of the Information Commissioner. To request an internal review, contact the team. A fee may apply to a review (€30, or €10 for those in receipt of social welfare payments).
