Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about Destination Subvention eligibility, applications, funding and support.

Three types of event are supported: Association Conferences with at least 100 international delegates, Meetings and Incentive programmes with a minimum of 50 international delegates or ground costs over €75,000, and International Cultural and Sporting Events with at least 100 international participants. All events must deliver a minimum of 80% of their itinerary in the Republic of Ireland.

Funding is based on estimated international delegate numbers and the event’s assessed value to the Irish economy. It is not guaranteed, and event spend does not decide the award. Final payment is adjusted after the event. If attendance falls below 80% of your estimate, payment is based on actual numbers.

The fund is always open, but lead times apply. Apply at least six months before association conferences and international events, and two months before meetings or incentive programmes. Bid support and site inspection requests must be submitted in advance. Retrospective approval is not available.

Fáilte Ireland is not a passive funder. Once you apply, the team engages with you throughout your event lifecycle: from supporting bid development and site inspection to working alongside you during delivery and reviewing your post-event report. The team also brings promotional support and destination expertise to help build your event’s case for Ireland with your delegates and decision-makers.

Yes. Association conferences can apply at bid or confirmed stage. Meetings and incentive programmes must be bid pending. Apply early so Fáilte Ireland can support bid development and site inspections, and help position Ireland as the host destination.
